Uber lays off 3700 employees through Zoom and say that today will be the last working day

The ride-hailing app Uber lays off around 14% to its workforce and said that 3700 employees to be precise. Ergo, this was told to them through video call and using a Zoom app. While retrenchments may be an option that many organizations resort to due to the challenges emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic, Uber faced so many challenges and also faced criticism for the manner through which they informed their employees.

Furthermore, it has been found that the news was announced to the employees by Ruffin Chaveleau, she is the head of the customer service of Uber. After all this, she also said that we are eliminating 3500 frontline customer service. Additionally, she said that the role of employees has been impacted and this would be the last working day for them. Uber Company has noted that the sales of rides have fallen by almost half and there is not enough work for several customers to support employees.

While the video calling through Zoom, Chaveleau broke down because she was not in the state to give such ending news to the employees. On the other side, she also thanked all the concerned employees for their contributions. There were so many employees who got down angry about not being given any notice as the termination was announced in a single call to 3700 employees.
