In Chandigarh, the liquor ban serving within 500 meters on national as well as state highways comes to an end.  The Supreme Court dismissed the PIL aligned with Chandigarh highways and clarifying its December 2016 order on liquor ban in 500 meters of the state as well as national highways. Supreme Court clarified that the ban was intended at reducing the sale of liquor in the proximity of highways that link towns, cities, and villages. “The order does not ban the sale of liquor by licensed establishments  in municipal areas”.

The court order was to execute after 42 days of its conclusion, which finishes today and bars, pubs, restaurants inside the municipal limits of Chandigarh, whether they are on national or state highways before district roads unlock and initiate their business ‘as usual’.

The liquor ban rationing on state and national highways had sternly smacked the hospitality business.
